About Me:

Damian Fernandez (Ph.D., University of Miami) is a specialist on Latin American politics. He is the former director of the Cuban Research Institute at Florida International University and served as lead investigator of a National Science Foundation-funded research initiative focusing on political culture, social capital and community among Latinos in the U.S. His book, Cuba and the Politics of Passion (2000), has been adopted for undergraduate and graduate courses at Princeton, University of Michigan, Tulane, Georgetown, and Amherst, among other universities. From 2008 – 2011 he served as Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs at Purchase College, State University of New York. Since July 2011 he is the Head of School at Ethical Culture Fieldston School in New York City.
