About Me:
Dr. David Jeffrey was born and raised in New York City and environs. He earned his B.S. in Chemistry from the State University of New York/Buffalo, graduating Magna Cum Laude/Phi Beta Kappa and the recipient of the Merck Award for outstanding graduating senior in chemistry. From Buffalo, Dr. Jeffrey entered the PhD program in organic chemistry at Harvard, beginning research in organic synthesis with Prof. E.J. Corey, winner of the 1990 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. Dr. Jeffrey continued and completed his Ph.D. in organic chemistry at U.C. Berkeley, with a novel dissertation combining early computer-aided synthesis planning with wet chemistry experimentation. This dissertation has been heavily cited by many future and reknown investigators. Following his Ph.D., Dr. Jeffrey undertook two post-doctoral research fellowships, both in organic synthesis, the first appointment at UCSF Medical, the second at Stanford. At Stanford, Dr. Jeffrey worked on a team of post-docs to achieve the first synthesis of the novel carbocyclic subunit of the potent and promising anti-tumor agent, neocarzinostatin. Following this extensive background in organic chemistry, Dr. Jeffrey became interested in environmental science, which led to a 15-year career as a human health risk assessment expert, rising to Managing Principal with a national engineering and consulting firm. More recently, for the past eight years, Dr. Jeffrey returned to his first passion, teaching. Over this period, he has been Course Instructor for general, organic, and environmental chemistry, teaching these lecture and lab courses at various colleges and universities in the Atlanta area. Dr. Jeffrey also has more recent high school science teaching experience, and is GACE-certified. Due to Dr. Jeffrey's diverse background and interests, he is able to teach across an unusually broad range of STEM subjects and disciplines.
