About Me:
Assistant Director of Curriculum & Professional Development, Mathematics & Science. Dionn N. Brown joined the Urban Teacher Center as Assistant Director of Professional Development for Math & Science in the spring of 2011 after over a decade of work in education. Her experiences span early childhood through secondary education and have been exercised in a wide range of roles as HeadStart tutor, classroom teacher, curriculum writer, mathematics coach, and educational specialist. Numeracy work with pre-school aged children in the Shaw neighborhood (DC), and teaching mathematics & science at grades 4-8 with the Houston Independent School District (TX) and the Vance County Public School System (NC), convinced Dionn that excellent teacher preparation and content coaching were a critical factor to improving the educational outcomes of children and youth. Dionn has prepared and coached teachers of mathematics with Jumpstart DC, Teach for America, and the Fund for Educational Excellence; determined to support them with establishing teaching and learning environments that were fun, fresh, and mathematically accurate. After several years of commitment to the students and teachers of Baltimore City School System as a high-school & middle grades Mathematics Educational Specialist, a K-8 Science Educational Specialist, and as a K-8 Network Academic Liaison of the School Support Networks, Dionn joined the UTC team to lead our work with preparing and coaching even more excellent teachers of mathematics and science.
