Gerald R. (Jerry) Lane, is a Co-Chairman of the 22 year University Level Intelligent Ground Vehicle Competition IGVC. Jerry received both his Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering and Masters In Business Administration from the University of Detroit Jerry joined the automotive industry in 1970 at Fruehauf Corporation as a trailer, container and trailerette design/project engineer. At Ford, performed product planner and design engineer for seat & bumper safety systems, In 1974 he entered the Defense community at Cadillac Gage as a Commando armored vehicle project engineer and recovery vehicle lead engineer. Jerry joined TARDEC in 1976 in advanced combat vehicle technology then started intelligent robotics at TARDEC in 1983 and is the Co-Founder of university level, international Intelligent Ground Vehicle competition (IGVC) www.IGVC.org entering its 22nd year. Positions after TARDEC included office director for Applied Research Associates where he developed route clearance systems employing robotically controlled commercial construction equipment and an unmanned aerial system for DTRA surveillance. At SAIC, PM & BD programs included bi-directional electric drive trucks for the Army, development of rotary engine powered APU and axially driven 30KW generator. STEM Interests: Jerry is a judge at the annual Lawrence Tech Robofest Competition and is a sponsor supporter of VEX robotics teams at De La Salle & Regina High Schools and a Capac MI FIRST Robotics team.
