About Me:
Jeff Davis brings a background in after school programming, environmental education, and STEM service learning to his work at the California Afterschool Network (CAN). Mr. Davis has worked with diverse leaders in the field through the CAN Committee structure to improve technical assistance for older youth programs, improve nutrition and physical activity, provide effective supports for English Learners in after school programs, advance rural after school programs, and create systems of support for after school Site Coordinators. Mr. Davis coordinated the efforts of statewide and national stakeholders and experts in the development of the California Afterschool Program Quality Self-Assessment Tool. For the last three school years, Mr. Davis has provided technical assistance to 15 Sacramento area sites from multiple after school programs in offering quality, inquiry-based STEM learning through the National Partnership for After School Science (NPASS). As Program Director of STEM in Out-of-School Time Programs for the California AfterSchool Network, Mr. Davis recently completed a school-year long pilot effort impacting over 280 after school program sites and over 500 individual program staff. As part of this (JumpStarting STEM) pilot, Mr. Davis and his team provided access to curriculum, professional development, and ongoing support to programs that offered 30-60 hours of STEM learning opportunities for the youth in their programs. He continues this work in partnership with the California STEM Learning Network through the Power of Discovery: STEM2 initiative. He also works with leaders from after school and business and industry to facilitate the efforts of CAN’s STEM Committee. Recently, he also serves on Superintendent Tom Torlakson’s STEM Task force, a 50-member team charged with creating a blueprint for STEM education in California.
