About Me:

I am from New Orleans and now live in Baton Rouge, LA since Hurricane Katrina. I am currently the Dean of Curriculum and Instruction at Episcopal, High School, which is a PreK-12 independent school in Baton Rouge. I like working with students and teachers and I love teaching. I also like to do action research on how students learn best with critical thinking and creative thinking. I am also consulting with College Board about the new AP Biology Redesign that has a focus on inquiry and about action research in the Masters of Science Education Program at Montana State University since 2006. Overall, I like getting to know teachers and students and to share learning with them. I have taught biology and chemistry since 1980. I have been a teacher and professional development coordinator at the LA Virtual School (LVS) from 1999 – 2010. I have taught Biology AP, Biology I, Environmental Science, Earth Science, Biology I for Facilitators, and workshops on effective classroom technology applications. I have a B.S. in Biochemistry, 1978, Newcomb College of Tulane University, a M.A.T. in Science Teaching, 1982, Tulane University, and a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction, 2005, LSU. I am a member of the 15-Degree Lab at the LSU College of Education and a past student of Dr. Jim Wandersee. The focus of my studies is BioDataMation, a term that we have developed that describes the study of biology with various animations, digital data collection, and the student's past present and future experiences. I am interested in the overall process of how students learn and construct knowledge.
