About Me:
As a STEM Coordinator, Lori Trent works with school systems to help integrate STEM and problem-based learning into the curriculum. Her department works directly with the teachers and administrators through meetings and professional developments, helping them use a transdisciplinary, student-centered approach. She has a Bachelors of Science in Art Education from Miami University (1982) and a Masters of Science in Education – Integrating Technology into the Classroom from Walden University (2007). Lori reached PAST through a history of education and business. The transition from teaching as a profession to working with teachers was a natural one, not to mention that she already had a personal concern for children to get the best possible training and education. Her history in education has had many successes, one occurring while she taught at Highland Elementary on the west side of Columbus, Ohio. As an art teacher, she guided her students to embrace diversity, and went to great lengths to get to know each child personally. It was that connection that helped behavior issues to decrease and for relationships to flourish. Connectivity with students is vital for them to learn more effectively. “Most children just want to know someone cares and that they are important. It is our responsibility to nurture our children to help them become productive community members.”
