About Me:
Ruth has been the principal investigator of innovative Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) education projects funded by the National Science Foundation, such as the Energy for ME project, the Community for Rural Education, Stewardship, and Technology (CREST) project, WeatherBlur, and the STORMS project. Ruth has extensive experience in developing STEM education programs based on a model incorporating 1) place-based education; 2) cutting-edge technology; and 3) non-hierarchal learning communities. Her current research focuses on understanding how student motivation and stewardship behavior is influenced by providing students with access to community-based data to find solutions to community questions. Her other research interests include developing strategies for incorporating distance-learning technology in extremely small rural schools, technology-infused environmental education models, and innovative professional development models for rural schools.
