About Me:
Floralba Arbelo Marrero is an education and administrative professional who has been involved in higher education for the past twelve years, and in the not for profit sector over 10 years. Floralba has had the privilege of developing educational programs and collaborating with Higher Education Institutions and NGO projects in Puerto Rico, Haiti, Dominican Republic, and in the U.S. in the areas of curriculum development, instructional design, LMS management, board governance, strategic planning, grant writing, and program management. Among the organizations that Floralba has provided research and management services for are the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanic Americans, the Center for New York City Affairs, NYC Board of Education's Office of Assessment and Accountability, U.S. State Department, Municipality of Caguas, and the Center for Community Linkages at the University of the Sacred Heart in Puerto Rico where she formed part of the Graduate Faculty. Floralba was the first Hispanic to serve on the board of directors of the Alliance for Nonprofit Management, a national association dedicated to building capacity for the nonprofit sector. Most recently Floralba is responsible for the completion of an 18,000 square foot undergraduate curricular and physical STEM Wing with fully equipped science and technology labs for Carlos Albizu University in Miami and the redesign of remedial math and English to co-curricular remediation components for nontraditional populations. Research interests include: the socio-cultural factors that impact achievement for Latino students, persistence and completion factors for Hispanic students, blended remediation models that work for Hispanic populations Floralba holds a BA from Brooklyn College, an MS from Milano Graduate School for International Affairs, Management and Urban Policy, an Ed.S from Liberty University and is a doctoral candidate in Educational Leadership at Liberty University. Publications include: What works for Latino Youth (2nd ed.) and Diego's Busy Week. Floralba lives in South Florida with her husband Michael and their two children.
