About Me:
Berta Hayes Capo was born in Cuba and, as a toddler; her parents immigrated with her to the state of New Jersey. During her teenage years, she moved to South Florida where she has remained. Berta is a Program Professor for the Abraham S. Fischler School of Education. She is a veteran Miami-Dade County Public School (MDCPS) science teacher of 22 years, with two additional years of experience teaching in an alternative education high school for primarily high risk Hispanic students. During her time with MDCPS, she gained extensive experience co-chairing and chairing large science fairs. Additionally, she served a leadership role for her former school’s Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) Committee. Berta has a published journal article based on her dissertation and a published article of a design case based on the creation of digital story professional development for teachers. The degrees earned by Berta include a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University, a Master of Science Education from the University of Miami, and a Doctor of Education in Information Technology and Distance Education from Nova Southeastern University.
