About Me:

Mano directs the Institute for Teaching through Technology & Innovative practices (ITTIP) that works closely with 25 school divisions of the Southside Virginia Reginal Technology Consortium. Mano is instrumental in promoting research based instructional practices in and motivating teachers in integrating interdisciplinary STEM learning. Until June 2005, Mano was the Director of Learning Technologies and was implementing technology programs at the Science Museum to develop technology skills in children. Mano’s current projects include Digispired ii: Workforce Investigation Inspiration for STEM (NSF-ITEST), Global Innovation in Science & Technology (HP Catalyst), Innovative Technologies in Science Inquiry Scale-up (Concord Consortium’s NSF-ITEST), and few other STEM learning projects funded by the Virginia Department of Education. ITTIP is an outreach of Longwood University with a mission to to transform teaching and learning in K-12 classrooms through the use of technology by providing high-quality professional development for educators, in order to maximize the learning experiences and opportunities of K-12 students for a globally competitive workforce. Mano is the recipient of 2009 Black Engineer of the Year Award (NSBE), 2010 Outstanding Service for Digital Equity Award (SITE) and 2011 Computational Thinking Teacher Award (SC 2011 – Education). In 2013 Mano was selected as one of the 15 HP Catalyst Fellows and she is focusing on developing an online course on using Scratch.

  • Of course,  Focus on Problem based learning.  Focus on how you teach modern history; your teaching is interdisciplinary and integrates STEM or collaborate with your engineering and science teachers to present examples of problem based learning.  May be you can get some of your students to co-present.  Just a thought
